Every heard of Veggie tah Bai? Veggie tah Bai is marketed as a local plant-based vegan shop here in Cebu that offers healthy, affordable, and delicious foods. All of their products have no animals and animal by-products. It somehow shares the mission of Soy and Bean.  It is located in the third floor of FTT Building, Gov. M Cuenco St., Nasipit, Talamban just across the University of San Carlos–Talamban Campus. They are open from 11 am to 8 pm. 

Paul John Casquejo, together with his business partners Steffany Kabingue and Irish Kabingue created Veggie Tah Bai to provide consumers with affordable meals that are healthy and organic without sacrificing the taste. 

My picks

Don’t get me wrong. There is a lot of must-try on their menu. If I just had a big appetite I would keep ordering everything on their menu but too much of something is not good. In this blog, I would focus on my top pick among their plant-based meals, plant-based smoothies, and of course my ever-so-favorite burger.

Plant-Based Meals

I’m pretty much sure you are familiar with 1 pcs chicken with rice or 2 pcs burger steak or how about sisig? Well, I sure am. These are the usual items I would order in most fast food. I know it’s not healthy but let’s all admit that it’s delicious. The good thing about Veggie tah Bai is that the names of their meals already sound delicious.

Mushroom Chicken. 

My pick in this category is the Mushroom Chicken. 

Now you might think it’s still a chicken or imagine this meal to be fried chicken with some mushroom sauce and 1 cup rice. Yes with the rice part but they’re using organic brown rice for all their meals. The crispy chicken is 100% vegan and is made from organic oyster mushroom topped with vegan teriyaki. This is so great. I don’t have to stick with the half rice meal routine. This is a guilt-free meal.

Plant-Based Smoothies

When you hear plant-based smoothies you might be imagining an ever-so-green drink where you still need to cover your nose just to gulp it in. Veggie tah Bai has 100% vegan drinks but they did not sacrifice the flavor.

Slimming Drink

This is a biased choice in a way since I need to lose weight. Since the pandemic started, I’ve been spending my time at home in the comfort of food panda. I gained a lot of weight since then and I’m the type who’s not into exercise and I hate bitter things. Their menu is consists of slimming, tropical, and detox smoothies. It’s no longer a surprise that my top pick for this category would be their slimming drink. The slimming drink is 100% vegan, a dairy-free smoothie made from strawberries, bananas, and almond milk. It tastes really good and hopefully, I would eventually trim down my weight.

A regular hamburger contains 25 grams of fat, 40 grams of carbs, 500 calories, 10 grams of sugar, and 1,000 milligrams of sodium. It’s not the best option for those who are walking towards the path of a healthy lifestyle but we can’t deny the fact that burgers are delicious. According to ETimes, after 15 minutes of your first bite of burger, you will experience a massive surge of glucose. This triggers the release of insulin, which makes you feel hungry again in a few hours. Repeating this pattern can increase the risk of diabetes. In scientific terms, the process of taking excessive calories in one sitting puts oxidative stress on cells.

My best pick among all the burgers Veggie tah Bai offers is their black burger. It is made from egg and dairy-free black buns, organic lettuce, tomatoes, red onion, meatless patty, and special sauce which is also plant-based. Now the key point here is the meatless patty. This makes the burger more healthy as compared to the regular burgers sold in all fast-food chains at the same time the taste isn’t half bad either.
