Magic Island Dive Resort has a very strategic location which makes it the best diving spot in the southern part of Cebu.

Magic Island Dive Resort is located in the southern part of Moalboal. The location is perfect for giving tourists a wide view of the mountain ranges in Cebu. The resort has 10 bungalows with private balconies. It is situated right on the rocky coastline, giving perfect access to the amazing house reef with a drop off down to 50m, sporting an array of marine creatures from frogfish, giant green sea turtles, Pygmy seahorses, and unspoiled coral reefs making it’s location strategic for diving.

Cottages & Amenities

It is roughly 91KM away from the City. With an estimated travel time of 2 hours and 20 minutes, one can’t help but look forward to the accommodation of the resort. Let’s dive into how the rooms look like together with their amenities.

One good point about their cottage is that it gives tourists a view of the swimming pool or the sea. It is not like the rest of the resorts where rooms are jam-packed in one area. Let’s be real, some resorts value quantity over quality after all but Magic Island Dive Resort is not like that.

Each cottage is equipped with an aircon/ceiling fan & hot water shower since hot water relaxes the body and results in a night of better sleep. Toiletries provided upon check-in include soap, shampoo, and pool/bathroom towels but wait there’s more, they also have a hairdryer in every room. Our hair follicles are weakest when they are wet. While you are sleeping with wet hair, the natural oils and water get absorbed into the pillow and leaves your hair dehydrated, dull, and moistureless. This combination makes your hair brittle and you may experience hair fall and dry, frizzy texture so better use that hair dyer after taking a shower.

There is also a minibar and unlimited alcohol – – – –  Nah! I’m just kidding! It’s a place to relax not to get wasted anyway so it’s unlimited Mineral water along with the minibar. Though alcohol is not entirely prohibited so it’s up to you. There is also a private balcony where you can relax while enjoying the view.BalconyCTO: Magic Island Dive Resort for the photo

Best Diving Spot

They also have a swimming pool, restaurant, bar, and spa but these are normally found in other resorts. I won’t go over the details of those but rather I want to focus more on what I believe makes Magic Island Dive Resort unique among any other resorts – – – their Diving Amenities. I strongly believe that it is the Best Diving Spot in the Southern part of Cebu. Diving is fun but we can’t deny the fact that there is risk involved. The first thing I usually check is the equipment, its quality, and if it’s properly maintained. Thumbs up to them for having a well-maintained diving center.

Their dive center is located at the bottom of the resort right on the ocean edge. Apart from the professional staff and dive guide, the diving center is fully equipped with 3 Bauer Compressors with continuous flow Enriched Air filling capabilities, 3 outrigger dive boats, individual hanging posts for all your dive gear, dedicated rinse tanks for all your dive gear, and cameras, drinking water and bathroom.CTO: Magic Island Dive Resort for the photo

Don’t know how to dive?

Worry not!!! Magic Island got you covered. They offer PADI courses.

For kids, 8 y.o and above they can join the Bubblemaker course where they can experience scuba diving under the direct care and supervision of a PADI Pro, take their first breaths underwater in water shallower than 2 meters, and learn about and use scuba diving equipment.

PADI Discover Scuba Diving is open for that 10 y.o and above. First, there will be a small classroom orientation, followed by a pool session. Once comfortable, you can then head off to one of their amazing dive sites to see all the wonders of the underwater world. No prior experience with scuba diving is necessary, but you need to be in reasonable physical health. You learn the basic safety guidelines and skills needed to dive under direct supervision.

If you’ve always wanted to take scuba diving lessons, experience unparalleled adventure, and see the underwater world, this is where you want to start. Get your scuba diving certification with the PADI Open Water Diver course. The course takes 3 to 4 days to complete, depending on whether you choose to complete the e-Learning before you arrive.

The PADI Open Water Diver course consists of three main phases:
• Knowledge Development (online, independent study or in a classroom) to understand basic principles of scuba diving
• Confined Water Dives to learn basic scuba skills
• Open Water Dives to use your skills and explore!
For more details on the courses, they offer please visit their official website.

Fluoro Diving

Fluoro what?!?

If you want to take adventure to a whole different level I would highly suggest fluoro diving.

This is a very different way to try a night dive. You use a special UV light torch and a special lens over your mask which allows you to see the fluorescent colors emitted by the fish or coral when under UV light. For some strange reason, unknown to science, many marine creatures fluoresce under UV light, which is usually invisible to the human eye. The reef turns into a whole new spectrum of colors; the once dull brown hard coral is now glowing bright red, and Moray Eels are no longer camouflaged but shining yellow like the sun. It’s like being in downtown Tokyo at night time! A sight not to be missed.

They also have courses tailored for those who want to give fluoro diving a shoot. So listen to the adventurous side of you and take up their course.CTO: Magic Island Dive Resort for the photo

Highly recommended

I would highly recommend this place. The view itself is a gift from nature that calms one’s soul and the experience of trying new things with the guide of professionals is all worth it.

  1. Wow! This truly looks like it is the best diving spot ever! The fluoro diving must be incredibly beautiful and a one-of-a-kind experience that isn’t available everywhere. Absolutely stunning spaces. Thanks for sharing this cool diving spot. My diving buddies have been looking for a new adventure and the Magic Island Dive Resort looks perfect!

  2. Sounds magical ! The diving resort sounds ideal for a family holiday although you mentioned its 2.5 hours away from the nearest city so I imagine it is accessible by taxi or by public transport?I like the fact that they have courses for beginners .The fluoro diving seems very interesting so it seems like the ideal place that caters for families and the adventurous! Oh and your comment  about there not being a “free bar” because “it is a place to relax not to get wasted”  – Classic -lol !

  3. This sounds like a unique and beautiful spot to vacation for a couple or the entire family!  It’s far enough from the city to provide a peaceful setting but close enough for a day trip if that was desired.  I love that they offer scuba lessons for young children, they would long remember the fun of it and it might even get them to learn more about it when they got home! As for me, I would like to try fluoro diving.  Thanks for posting this.

  4. Wow! What a great review on Magic Island Dive Resort. I have never heard of it before; and I am a diver. I looked up Cebu Island, and it has a 5-star rating from divers across the world. Likewise, I like the vibe of Magic Island with the bungalows and pool with ocean views.  Even if you’re not a diver, this looks a great place to take an island vacation. I’d like to know more about travelling to Magic Island because of its location, it looks like it’s a bit arduous to get there. Thanks for turning me on to a great new diving location. I’ll be checking out early next year.

  5. Great review. Telling it as it is. I hope things open up for you soon in the Philippines, so business can get going again. I know many divers like to travel. Exploring new sites is why they do it, and Cebu was one of the more popular dive sites in the world.

Hopefully we can see more reviews on Cebu from you. Thank you for doing this one.

  6. This place looks really wonderful! I’m planning a getaway trip for the next summer with my friends, and they really love snorkeling. The fluoro diving is really a unique experience that we haven’t tried anywhere else, so I’m sure my friends will be interested. Is there any cost estimation if we want to stay there for fluoro diving for 4 people, around two days? Thanks

  7. This place seems to provide unique vacation experiences in the lap of luxury. I was amazed that drinks are free in the room mini bars I presume. My advice is, do not drink and dive lol.

is the water fairly warm? Can one dive using just the diving breathing gear and speedos? Do they have underwater cameras for rent to take personal pictures and videos?

I was fascinated by the Fluoro diving opportunities.

    Cheers.

    Edwin

  8. This place looks like absolute heaven. I love that there is a facility for the kiddies to try scuba diving, leaving their parents free to go diving. I would also like to try fluoro diving, as this is something that I have never done before.

I wasn’t exactly sure where this magical place was, so I had to Google, and if I am correct it is on an island near the Philippians?

  9. Fantastic! The place is unbelievably cool, I love diving but I don’t know how, it’s nice to have training courses.
I think the most good thing is its distance from the city as well as the availability of transportation.
I have a Filipino friend who lives with us and he has invited me many times to visit the Philippines, and I was postponing my response to him, I think after reading the post I should think again.
Thank you for your wonderful participation.

  12. You’ve made some good points there. I looked on the internet for more information about the issue and found most people will go along with your views on this site.

  13. Hmm is anyone else encountering problems with the pictures on this blog loading? I’m trying to figure out if its a problem on my end or if it’s the blog. Any feed-back would be greatly appreciated.
